You might not be aware of how many terrific festivals and events take place in Eastern Ontario and Upper New York State each season. We are also surrounded by hundreds of interesting attractions that you might want to take the family to or guests from out of town. If the weather is foul, or the kids are driving you crazy with cries of "I'm bored", this will be of assistance. Click here to browse our Calendar of Events. The following is our list of recommended "must see and do" attractions in the area.

Boldt Castle and Yacht House. Open Mother's Day Weekend to Columbus Day. Six impressive structures to explore on Heart Island-Boldt Castle, the Power House, the Alster Tower, the Hennery, the Arch, & a stone gazebo.

Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises. The Food, Fun and Entertainment Ships of the 1000 Islands; departing daily & offering sightseeing to fine dining. www.1000islandscruises.ca

Gananoque Boat Lines at Gananoque and Ivy Lea. Three hour tours of 1000 Islands International Waters. One hour tour of Canadian islands available. A five hour tour including a stop at Boldt Castle leaves daily at 3pm. www.ganboatline.com

Champagne Balloon Adventures. Float a few feet from the water or soar 1000 feet up over the St. Lawrence River. www.balloonadventures.com

Confederation Tour Trolley at Kingston. A 50-minute exploration into Kingston's historic past. View beautiful Lake Ontario waterfront, historic Royal Military College, Fort Henry, the Penitentiaries, Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, Bellevue House, & Queen's University. www.kingstonchamber.on.ca

Fort Henry National Historic Site at Kingston. Step through the gates of this 19th century military fortress & enter the realm of garrison life with guided tours, performances by the Fort Henry Guards, muster parades, heritage dining and other special events. www.forthenry.com

Antique Boat Museum in Clayton. Speedboat rides every hour on the hour in a triple cockpit runabout or rent a skiff and explore the Clayton waterfront. Stroll amidst the priceless collection of antique boats, motors & engines. www.abm.org

Canada's Penitentiary Museum at Kingston. A fascinating view into the criminal mind and a look at Canada's federal correctional history, located in the former Warden's residence of the Kingston Penitentiary. Email: Penitentiarymuseum@csc-scc.gc.ca

Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston. Tall tales, high adventure, bold exploration and mighty enterprise highlight the story of Canada's great inland seas. Arthur Child Heritage Centre in Gananoque. Visitors will experience the history, life and times of the 1000 Islands Region through an exhibit of dioramas and inter-active displays. www.1000islandsheritagecentre.com

Agnes Etherington Art Centre at Queen's University, Kingston. Visit this premier university art gallery with its exciting schedule of changing exhibits and public programming. www.queensu.ca/ageth

St. Lawrence Gallery at Alexandria Bay, Ny. The largest selection of St. Lawrence River art featuring artist Michael Ringer and other local artists. www.michaelringer.com

Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque. Theatre in an historic, renovated, turn of the century canoe club, offering professional productions of comedies, musicals & drama in a fabulous riverside location. www.1000islandsplayhouse.com

Grand Theatre at Kingston. Kingston's only civic performing arts centre, seating 820 people in an historic theatre. The best in comedy, musical theatre and concert attractions. www.grandtheatre-kingston.com

Kingston Symphony. The Kingston Symphony is dedicated to musical development in our community through the orchestras and choir we operate and the high musical performances we present. www.kingstonsymphony.on.ca

County Cider Company at Picton. This estate winery is located in the most beautiful part of The County, North Marysburgh. Visit the Tasting Room and try our hard apple ciders and wines. www.countycider.com

Waupoos Estates Winery in Prince Edward County. These vineyards and winery can be found within the apple orchards of Waupoos, alongside the scenic shores of Prince Edward Bay. www.waupoosestateswinery.com

Upper Canada Bird Sanctuary at Ingleside. This is one of the key wildlife habitats in Eastern Ontario, including wooded uplands, waterways and marshland. Nature programs are offered at the Visitor Interpretive Centre. www.uppercanadabirdsanctuary.com

Boiler Room Climbing Gym in Kingston. Indoor rock climbing facility with 35 routes, 2 caves, and 100 ft. high chimney - the highest indoor climb in Canada. Beginners welcome. www.boilerroom.ca
